Educational oceanographic expedition for the students of the Department of Biology of the University of Crete with the reconstructed R/V "PHILIA" (BIOFIL)

Aim: In the context of the BIOFIL proposal, R/V PHILIA served as a teaching platform for the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Biology of the University of Crete. The students who participated in the research expedition, had the opportunity to access the renewed oceanographic vessel, fully equipped with all the latest technology instruments used in modern oceanographic research and to collaborate with professors and researchers working in the field of marine sciences. The aim of the BIOFIL proposal was to understand the scientific tools used through research and education in order to address environmental pressures of the marine environment, such as climate change, marine pollution and overfishing, as well as students’ knowledge and training as well as the necessary technical skills to develop a successful career in marine research.
